Minutes for the Tuesday, January 6th of 2009 at 8:30PM Meeting

                       General Meeting - 246 Hopkins Hall         11 in attendance

 

  • Student Involvement Fair - detailed
    • Wednesday from 7-9pm, Knowlton School of Architecture
    • Hot chocolate provided
    • HRC WILL BE THERE, STOP BY TO VISIT OR WORK THE TABLE!!!!

  • HRC ready to get our hands dirty (or whatever the occasion calls for) at MLK Day of Service -
    • To show that GLBTs are part of the community and contribute to it as much as anyone else does.
    • We need to meet up at Hithcock hall and register at the same time so that we won't be split up! Probably around 7:45 am! I know it's early but it will definitely be worth it!
    • 8 am, Jan. 19 - Registration @ Hitchcock Hall
    • 8:45 - opening session
    • 9:30 - depart for service sites
    • 10:30 - service
    • 1:30 - return to Hale Black Cultural Center
       
  • T-shirt designs
    • Design - royal blue t-shirt with rainbow fist with the Martin Luther King, Jr. quote "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
       
  • Details on Rally
    • Presentation on Obama's promises to the GLBT community
    • Rally on Sat. Jan 10, 1:30pm
    • Ohio Statehouse (High and Broad)
    • Leave at about 1pm
    • Contact Andrew or Amanda for carpooling
       
  • Poster designing
    • Saturday, 12:00 @ the SOURCE
       
  • Gods and GLBTs 
    • Bring in both sides?
    • If we do, we will have to fully inform them about the nature of the discussion
    • Or we could bring in the support only
      • It is more in line with our goals for the program
      • We will avoid setting up a confrontation
      • People hear enough condemnations about GLBT people
    • Important points to emphasize to those speaking
      • Encourage speakers to talk about outreach efforts
      • More specialized GLBT focus, rather than a general overview of each belief system
      • Tell their stories
      • Internal/external conflict
      • Panel, Q&A
    • EXCELLENT opportunity to increase our visibility
      • We should ask the Lantern to cover the event
