I just wanted to remind everyone that we will not be having a normal HRC meeting this Tuesday (March 10, 2009), instead HRC is co-hosting the MILK and Cookies event. The event will take place in 001 Scott Labs and will begin at 8:00pm. Event description: We will be viewing the Oscar-winning film Milk, the story of the first openly gay man to hold elected office. Insomnia cookies (mmmm), and actual milk will be provided. We'll also announce our plans to fight for equality in housing and employment for all Ohioans. For more information on this event, check out the event’s facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=146119690136.
Remember that this coming Friday (the 13th ….spooky) is Fusion Friday, if you have yet to attend one, I highly recommend it. FusionFRIDAY will be at the Columbus College of Art & Design (CCAD, 112 Cleveland Ave. & Long St.) in the Lobby of the Loann Crane Center for Design and will happening from 7pm-10pm. Event description: FusionFRIDAY is a new monthly event with the goal of providing a safe networking space for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning college students and their allies. This is a time to hang out, make friends, learn more about the great Columbus community through meeting others. This event should be seen as your way to meet others like you away from the bars and clubs, or it could be a way to meet-up before going out. It’s low-key and casual. This is not a student organization, meeting, dance, or political event—it is purely social space. Central Ohio college students should feel welcome to stop-by or stay the whole time. Your friends from colleges outside of the area are also welcome. Come enjoy music, food, mixing and, and drag performances from Alexis Stevens with other GLBT college students in Columbus! For more information check out the event’s facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=146119690136#/event.php?eid=134625985233&ref=ts .

Also, if you haven’t already, make sure to apply for any of the GLBT Alumni Scholarships that you are eligible for. The deadline for these scholarships is March 31st, so make sure to do that. Here is the link: http://www.osuglbt.org/scholarships.html . DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! IT MAY COST YOU POTENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS!
National Day of Silence is coming up (April 17th), as you all know we want to make a silent short film to bring awareness of GLBTQ harassment and hate crimes. We hope to start filming this week. So let me know if you want to help, we will need actors to play in the film, camera crew, and people who know how to edit film. We also are organizing a silent lunch of mass proportions on the oval in which we plan on having InterACT to provide skits on GLBTQ harassment and hate crimes to provide lots of publicity and bring greater awareness on these issues. More information when this is made available.
As always, questions, comment, and suggestions are ALWAYS welcome (and encouraged)!!! To quote a colleague: “HRC@OSU does not belong to just one person or small group of people. HRC@OSU is as much your organization as it is the officers', and because of this, we are always willing to hear what you want to see out of HRC@OSU. There is no better time than the present to try and make our voice heard, and we are always looking for new ways to help advance LGBTQ and other civil rights causes.”
Have a great week and I’ll see you on Tuesday for Milk and Cookies!
Your friend in the fight for EQUALITY,
Amanda
